How to Buy Human Hair Bundles That Match Your Hair

Human hair bundles are packs of real human hair with a line of stitching along the top, called a weft. Your stylist sews or bonds those wefts to your braided or capped hair to build a weave. We sell ours by weight, at 100 grams a bundle. For a natural result, you need bundles that match your own hair in texture and color, and enough of them for the length you want.

What are human hair bundles?

To make a bundle, a factory lines up a length of human hair and stitches the top into a weft, a flat seam of thread. Your stylist attaches the wefts in rows called tracks, and the finished install is a weave. Shops sell the same product as bundles, wefts, weave hair or extensions. Search for hair weave hair and you will find all four names on packs of the same thing.

We stitch our Raw Sea bundles with a double machine weft, two rows of machine stitching along the top. The second row holds the hair tighter at the seam and cuts shedding along the track.

Your stylist can install bundles two ways:

  • Sew-in. Your stylist braids your hair into cornrows and sews the wefts onto the braids with a needle and thread.
  • Quick weave. Your stylist covers your hair with a protective cap and bonds the wefts to the cap.

For hair you put in and take out yourself, our clip-ins carry the same Raw Sea hair on wefts with clips.

Is weave hair real human hair?

Weave hair comes as human hair, synthetic fiber or a blend of the two. Start with the label. A pack marked “100% human hair” claims zero synthetic fiber, and a “human hair blend” contains some.

You will notice the difference at the flat iron. Standard synthetic fiber melts or warps under heat. Heat-friendly synthetics handle low settings, and wig maker Ellen Wille rates its heat-friendly fiber at 260°F to 280°F. On our raw bundles, we recommend keeping heat tools under 400°F and using a heat protectant.

To test a bundle yourself, burn a few of the strands that come loose when you comb it out. Hold them in tweezers over a sink and touch the ends to a flame. Human hair smells like burning hair and leaves a dull black bead that crumbles between your fingers once it cools. Synthetic fiber melts into a hard bead with a chemical smell. A blend gives you a mix of both. Textile guides use the same burn test to tell wool from synthetics, and this fiber identification guide lists the results.

The label can carry a grade: virgin, Remy or raw. Virgin hair has had no chemical treatment. Remy hair keeps its cuticles facing one direction, root to tip. Our raw bundles come from a single donor, with no chemical processing and the cuticles aligned. Our guide to virgin and Remy hair shows you how to check each claim.

Natural hair weave extensions: how do you match texture and color?

You might mean two things by natural hair weave extensions: a weave that looks like hair you grew, or a weave that works with your natural, unrelaxed hair. Both come down to your leave-out, the hair your stylist leaves out at the front or crown to cover the tracks. Your bundles have to match that section in texture and color, or the line between your hair and the weave shows.

Texture. Match your bundles to your leave-out as you wear it on install day. Relaxed or silk-pressed hair blends with straight bundles. Our Raw Sea Straight has a low-luster finish with a hint of coarseness, and it blends with relaxed and textured hair.

If you wear your natural curl pattern, straight or wavy bundles won’t match your leave-out unless you press it, and pressing it at each install puts a flat iron on your own hair every six to eight weeks. With a closure or frontal, you leave none of your own hair out. We make custom textures on request if you want bundles closer to your curl pattern.

Color. Raw hair keeps the donor’s own shade, in the natural black to dark brown range. Lay your bundles side by side in daylight before your appointment. Small shade differences between raw bundles are normal. If one bundle runs lighter, your stylist can spread its wefts through the back of your head instead of stacking them in one spot.

For jet black or blonde, color the hair after you decide to keep it: our bundles lift to 613 blonde, and a colorist should do the first lift.

Closure, frontal or leave-out: which do you need?

The tracks of a weave need cover at the front of your head. You can use your own leave-out, or a piece of lace with hair tied into it: a closure or a frontal. The numbers in a closure or frontal name give the lace size in inches, width first.

OptionWhat it coversPartingPrice at 18″ (Raw Sea Straight)
Leave-outYour own hair covers the frontWhere your hair parts$0
2×6 HD closureA strip 2 in wide, 6 in deepDeep middle part$130
5×5 HD closureA 5 in square at the top of your headMiddle or side part$140
6×6 HD closureA 6 in squareMiddle or side part, with more room$150
13×6 HD frontalYour hairline, ear to ear, 6 in deepAny part, plus pulled-back styles$235

Our closures and frontals use HD Swiss lace, a thin lace that blends across skin tones. You get the most styling room from a frontal, along with the most upkeep, since the lace runs along your whole hairline. A 5×5 closure gives you a side part with less lace to look after than a frontal.

How many bundles do you need?

We sell our bundles by weight: 100 grams each, at each length from 12 to 34 inches. A 28-inch bundle weighs the same as a 14-inch bundle, so it holds fewer strands, and a longer install needs more bundles to look as full.

Length or goalBundles
12 to 14 inches, or light volume2
16 to 22 inches, full sew-in3, our most popular set with a closure
24 inches and longer4, or 5 for extra fullness

Same-length sets give you a blunt, full end. Mixed sets such as 16-18-20 taper toward the ends for a layered fall. Our combos come both ways.

How much do human hair bundles cost?

We price our bundles by length, since long hair is harder to source. Our Raw Sea Straight human hair bundles start at $80 for 12 inches and add $9 for each two inches, up to $179 at 34 inches.

The cost of a full 18-inch install with a closure:

ItemPrice
Three 18″ Raw Sea Straight bundles$321.00
One 18″ 5×5 HD closure$140.00
Total, bought separately$461.00
Same set as a combo$394.70

Prices from rawhairsglobal.com, September 2026.

You will find bundles for a fraction of that price. Before you buy, ask the seller how they processed the hair, and run the checks from our virgin and Remy guide when the pack arrives.

How do you care for a human hair weave?

Plan your take-down before your install. A certified extension stylist told The Knot not to keep a sew-in in longer than eight weeks. Raw hair can go back in for another install after that, and you control how many rounds it lasts through the way you wash and heat it.

  • Wash every week or two. Press diluted shampoo into your scalp between the tracks instead of scrubbing, so the braids and thread stay tight.
  • Condition from mid-length to the ends, and air dry when you have the time.
  • Keep heat under 400°F, with a heat protectant.
  • Sleep in a satin or silk bonnet to cut friction against your pillow.
  • Between installs, wash and condition the wefts and let them dry flat before you store them.

Protect your warranty with two habits. Film yourself opening the package, since our warranty card requires an unboxing video for a return or exchange. Don’t cut or color the hair until you know you are keeping it, because either one voids the card. The card runs for three months from activation.

Frequently asked questions

Is a weave the same as hair extensions? A weave is one kind of hair extension. Extensions cover any hair added to your own, from clip-ins to sewn-in bundles. A stylist installs a weave by sewing or bonding wefts to your braided or capped hair. Clip-ins use the same kind of weft with small clips attached, so you can put them in and take them out at home.

How long do human hair bundles last? A sew-in stays in for eight weeks at most, the limit a certified extension stylist gave The Knot. The hair lasts longer than one install. Our raw bundles go back in for more installs after a wash and deep condition, and you control how many rounds you get through your heat and washing habits.

Can you reuse human hair bundles? Yes. After your stylist takes the install down, wash and condition the wefts and check the seams for loose thread. We build our Raw Sea bundles for more than one install. Retire a bundle when the ends stay dry after conditioning, or when the weft starts to shed at the seam.

Can you dye or bleach human hair bundles? Yes. Human hair takes color, and our Raw Sea bundles lift to 613 blonde. Book a colorist for the first lift instead of doing it at home. Wait to color until you have decided to keep the hair, because bleaching or dyeing voids our warranty card.

Do human hair bundles work with 4C hair? Yes. For a sew-in, your stylist braids your hair flat and sews the bundles on top, so your curl type does not change the install underneath. The match problem sits at the leave-out. Straight and wavy bundles won’t blend with 4C leave-out unless you press it, which makes a closure or frontal the easier route.

Pick your length and start with a bundle and closure combo. Each combo packs three Raw Sea bundles and a closure or frontal for less than the four pieces cost on their own.
