Hair Extension Vendors: Where to Buy Raw Hair

Hair extension vendors sell bundles direct or wholesale, from their own factory or one they buy through, at a lower price per gram than the stores that resell their hair. In exchange, you run the quality checks yourself. Test a vendor with one sample bundle, a wash test and a payment you can dispute before you place a wholesale order.

A seller can print “raw” on processed hair at no cost, and raw hair sells at a premium. The checks below take one bundle and about a week, whether you install for clients, resell, or buy for your own sew-in.

Where can you buy hair extensions?

You can buy hair extensions from five kinds of seller. They differ in what you can inspect before you pay, and in who answers for a bad bundle.

What do hair extension vendors sell?

Most hair extension vendors sit in the middle of a supply chain. Collectors buy hair from donors, factories sort it by length and sew it into wefts, and trading companies and vendors resell the bundles. Each step adds cost, and each reseller can relabel the hair. We manufacture our own bundles for that reason, as our story explains.

The raw material itself spans a wide price range. In 2024, India exported 3.49 million kilograms of unworked human hair worth $186 million, about $53 a kilogram. Pakistan shipped 3.40 million kilograms for $5.6 million, under $2 a kilogram. Both report under one customs line, human hair and waste, unworked, in UN Comtrade data on the World Bank’s WITS site. You can’t read from a bundle label which end of that range your hair came from.

Raw hair, virgin hair and remy: the grades on a vendor’s price list

Vendors sell three grades, and the words overlap. Remy hair keeps its cuticles running one way, root to tip. Virgin hair has had no chemical treatment, though some suppliers steam it into a wave. Raw hair passes both tests, comes from one donor per bundle and skips steam styling, so it keeps the texture it grew with.

Vendors who list virgin raw hair bundles make the strictest claim on the page, and the one most worth testing. Our virgin vs remy hair guide explains each grade.

How do you vet a raw hair vendor?

Run five checks on your first order, and keep the vendor’s answers in writing so you can hold the vendor to them.

  1. Ask four questions before you pay. Where did the hair come from? How many donors go into one bundle? Has anyone steamed, colored, acid-washed or siliconed it? Does the vendor sew the wefts or buy finished bundles? A raw hair vendor with its own production can send you photos of the line.
  2. Order one bundle as a sample. Pick the length and texture you would reorder. Our raw hair bundles start at $85 for 12 inches. Film the unboxing: many hair extension vendors, us included, ask for the video before they accept a return or warranty claim.
  3. Inspect it before you wash it. Weigh the bundle on a kitchen scale against the grams on the label. Slide your fingers from the weft to the tips and back: aligned cuticles feel smooth going down and grip on the way up. Then hold the ends against the weft. Ends that thin out fast mean many strands run shorter than the stated length.
  4. Wash one weft. Use a clarifying shampoo, skip the conditioner and air dry. Dermatologist Maria Fernanda Reis Gavazzoni Dias notes in a review in the International Journal of Trichology that silicone polymers can re-cement lifted cuticle scales, which lets processed hair pass for healthy in the pack. With the coating washed off, processed hair turns dry and rough, and raw hair stays soft. Burn two or three shed strands over a sink: human hair leaves an ash bead you can crush, synthetic fiber a hard one, per this fiber identification guide. Read the return terms first, since washing counts as use and our return policy accepts unused hair only.
  5. Pay with a method you can dispute. In a July 2026 consumer alert, the FTC tells shoppers to pay by credit card when they can and warns that scammers ask for bank transfers, wire transfers, crypto, payment apps or gift cards. PayPal’s Purchase Protection covers eligible Goods & Services payments. Take extra care with sellers you meet on social media: people reported losing $2.1 billion to scams that started on social media in 2025, and more than 40% of the people who lost money there fell for shopping scams, per FTC data from April 2026.

Buying virgin raw hair bundles wholesale

At wholesale volume you take on two new risks: the hair has to match on each reorder, and the parcel may cross a border you pay for.

Consistency. Ask a wholesale hair vendor for the minimum order, price breaks and lead time in writing. Before you commit, reorder your sample length and compare the two bundles side by side in daylight for texture, weight and ends.

Import costs. Since August 29, 2025, overseas parcels no longer skip US customs: that day the US ended duty-free de minimis entry for shipments worth $800 or less, and CBP made the suspension indefinite in a June 2026 rule. A $600 box of bundles from an overseas vendor now needs a customs entry plus any duties, taxes and fees that apply. Ask each vendor whether a quote is DDP, with duties paid, before you compare prices.

Stock location. We keep our raw hair bundles in stock in Marysville, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia, and ship within North America. Processing and transit times sit on our shipping policy page.

FAQ: buying from a hair vendor

Where should raw hairdressers buy their bundles? Buy from a vendor that sews its own wefts or names the factory that does, sells single bundles for testing, and answers origin and processing questions in writing. Your name goes on each install, so run the five checks on your first order and again on your first reorder.

Are cheap virgin raw hair bundles real? Price alone won’t tell you. Unworked hair ranges from under $2 to about $53 a kilogram in customs data, and a raw label costs a seller nothing. A sample bundle, a clarifying wash and a burn test give you a better answer than the price tag.

Is it safe to buy from hair vendors on Instagram or WhatsApp? It can be. The FTC advises you to search a company’s name with words like “scam” or “complaint” before you buy from a seller you found on social media. Pay by card or PayPal Goods & Services, start with one bundle, and walk away from a vendor that takes Zelle, wire transfers or crypto and nothing else.

Choose your vendor with one bundle

Judge hair extension vendors on written answers, a bundle you can test and a payment you can dispute, and repeat the checks on your first reorder.

We make our Raw Sea bundles in our own factory from single-donor raw hair. Order one Raw Sea Straight bundle in the length you install most, run it through the five checks, and message us on WhatsApp for wholesale pricing.
